Learn to Sing Program
Who We Are
The Chordsmen Chorus is part of the International Barbershop Harmony Society, which is the world’s largest all-male singing Society, with affiliated men’s and women’s organizations in more than a dozen countries bring the total number of active singers to more than 80,000 worldwide.
Through active programs in music education, publishing, performance, and outreach, the Society preserves and extends the reach of a uniquely American close harmony musical art form whose roots lie in African-American improvisation and European harmony traditions. Founded in 1938 as the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA), the Society now expends $1.3 million annually in support of community and school programs that bring the fellowship, fulfillment, and excitement of vocal music, a cappella style, to a new generation of singers. (Our Chapter has been operating since 1948, and has supported many community organizations and causes over the years.)
The Learn To Sing (better) Program
This is an instructive and enjoyable 6-week program in vocal singing techniques and chorus singing that will be sure to help singers of all experience levels. (Content includes Breathing and Posture; Resonance; vowels and diphthongs; vocal range and dynamics.) Each week the participants, along with our chorus members, will have a chance to improve singing skills, learn some new songs, and, if they wish, stay and listen to the Chorus work on their preparation for upcoming performances.
The program will be led by our Director, Sherrie Bredesen, along with other members of the music team.
It’s FREE! There is no cost for the program — – All music and learning materials will be provided for the 2 songs that will be featured. At the successful completion of the learning program, participants will have the opportunity to join the Chorus in one or more of the Christmas programs that are performed throughout the city leading up to Christmas.
This is a no-obligation program. Participants can participate in some sessions or the entire Program, and, if they are successful in the program and find that this is a fun way to spend their Wednesday evenings, they are welcome to discuss joining the Chapter.
